The dvd craze has caught on with golfers of all ages and abilities. Golf instruction dvds have been very popular, but now golf fitness dvds are coming into their own.

I have personally looked at all the golf fitness dvds. There are some okay ones and some not so okay ones.

This is separate from the workout component of the golf fitness dvd. 2. You would also want a
Golf Fitness Training Improves Your Golf Swing with Core Training
...positions, movements, and actions encountered on the golf course.

If you want to work out your golf muscles but don’t want to pay for the full exercise program, there are lots of ways to get your golf exercise free. You don’t even need dumbbells or fancy training gear. Here are some simple, free golf exercises you can do on your own.

There are lots of good, easy stretching exercises that you can do anywhere. Here’s a good one to stretch your hamstrings and lower back.

- Stand with your legs apart, about shoulder-length. Keep your eyes straight and stretch your arms over your head, clasping your hands together. Then, stretch your clasped hands toward your feet. Hold for a count of 10,
Secret 7 Necessities for Great Golf
...the body produces stability and helps to generate power. Combined muscle strength produces balance and coordination. Strong ligaments and tendons also prevent the joints from going beyond their range of motion. Supple Flexibility is the single most important physical characteristic ...
and then slowly go back to the beginning position.

For a little variation to work on rotation, at the starting position rotate your upper body to one side, still keeping your feet in the same position. Now, slowly extend your clasped hands downward. Just stretch until you feel it pulling a bit, you don’t want to overdo it.

Here is a simple exercise to make your hip turns easier and more relaxed.

- Get down on one knee, while the other leg is in front of you like you’re taking a giant step. Slowly lean forward, and you’ll feel your hip stretching. This will strengthen your hips and also cut down on the risk of back
Golf Fitness DVD: Improve Your Game In Your Living Room
...fitness dvds are coming into their own. I have personally looked at all the golf fitness dvds. There are some okay ones and some not so okay ones. What you would hope for in a golf fitness dvd is several ...
injuries when you’re playing. If you put your club behind you, clutched in the inside of your elbows, this will help improve your posture as well.

This one will help you strengthen your golf swing by imitating the swing and stretching the muscles you’ll use.

- Stand with your back to a wall. You don’t have to be flat up against it. Look down at your feet and slowly twist your torso around without moving your head or your feet. Go slow, don’t pull anything! Gradually turn until you can put the palms of your hands on the wall. You won’t be able to do it at first, but eventually it will get easier.

Golf Fitness Training Improves Your Golf Swing with Core Training
...a golf fitness program. The core is a reference to an anatomical area of body. The core is the anatomical area of your body from above the knees to below the chest. It includes all the muscles, nerves, and bones ...
Here is another back pain buster that will exercise your hips, shoulders and legs.

- Lay on the floor on your side with one elbow under your body. With the elbow more or less directly under your shoulder, lift up your body by straightening the arm. Keep your body in a straight line as you do it. Once you’ve gotten used to this, you can vary it by lifting your top leg, performing a motion like a pair of scissors. This one is strenuous, but it exercises a wide variety of muscles that are important for your swing.

One more thing: always stretch well before and after exercise. Most serious golf fitness guys will tell
How A Golf Fitness Book Can Transform Your Game
...in the gym. This is NOT a golf fitness book, this is a book pertaining to general fitness, but with the title revised to catch the golfers eye. In my mind, this is a little deceptive and can frustrate the ...
you that they spend about as much time stretching as they do exercising. A simple toe touch will do. Or, sit vertically and twist to one side, keeping one elbow pressed against the opposite raised knee.

And, go slow at first. Don’t overdo it!

The concept of core training is a buzz word in today s fitness and training community. It has also become a prevalent idea in the game of golf. In regards to golf it has been noted by many individuals that the core area of the body is where the power comes from in your swing, and in order to make a full turn you need flexibility in the core. This article will discuss the function of the core in relation to human movement and the golf swing.

We will discuss categorically the functions of the core and how improvements in these areas can assist in the improvement of your golf swing. Before we
 Core Strength For Golf
...or power requires an increase in core strength. Exercises to strengthen these muscles should be a continuous portion of your fitness regimen. In recent years, there has been more implementation of functional fitness exercises. The same holds true for golf ...
begin discussing the functions of the core, let us define it. The core can be defined as an anatomical area of the body. The core is includes all the muscles from below the chest to the hips. Separated out into body parts the core includes all muscles of: the hips (glutes, hamstrings, glutes), abdominals, obliques (side abdominals), and low back. These muscles groups essentially comprise the core region and are involved in the majority of movement elicited by the core.

Now that we have a brief understanding of what exactly the core refers to in terms of a reference point, let us begin to discuss the pertinent connections between the core and the golf swing. We will be discussing the
Golf Fitness: The Quickest Way To Play Better Golf
...specific to golf, and strengthening the tendons and ligaments in every joint of your body. In conjunction with a stretching program, strength training will improve flexibility, not hinder it. "Weight training will cause me to lose feel." By strengthening your ...
following topics in relation to the golf swing: 1) range of motion, 2) speed of motion, 3) balance, and 4) coordination. All four of these categories are related to the core of your body and have a direct effect on your golf swing. We will first begin by discussing range of motion and move forward from that point.

Range of Motion

Most of us have probably heard of this term before and may have some type of definition for it. Let us first define range of motion. Range of motion is essentially a distance that the body or body part moves during an activity. For example, walking down the street requires all segments of the body to move through a
Free Golf Exercises You Can Do Anytime Anywhere
...Stand with your back to a wall. You don't have to be flat up against it. Look down at your feet and slowly twist your torso around without moving your head or your feet. Go slow, don't pull anything! Gradually ...
certain range of motion. In addition to the entire body, specific body parts move through a specified range of motion. The knee for instance, when you are walking, moves in a linear range of motion to create movement in the legs.

The golf swing is similar to walking when discussing range of motion. The entire body must move through a specified distance to perform the golf swing correctly. The core as a segment of the body also has to move through a specified distance to perform the golf swing correctly. Relating the core and the golf swing range of motion is very important. It is the primary body segment that allows for the rotation of the body to occur. The
Secret 7 Necessities for Great Golf
...important physical characteristic likely to influence your golf swing. A tight body creates restricted motion in the swing and produces injuries as a form of compensation. Keep your body supple so it doesn t become a limiting factor in your ...
back swing, down swing, and follow through require an extensive range of motion to be provided by the core. If limitations exist in terms the distance that the core can move through, then limitations will occur in the golf swing. On the flip side, a greater range of motion (distance that the body segment moves through) generates greater amounts of power. This gets into what can be termed as the X factor in the back swing. The more turn (range of motion of the core) you can get in the golf swing, the greater ability the body has to generate more power.

Range of motion is quite a relevant topic when reviewing the golf swing. It
Golf Fitness DVD: Improve Your Game In Your Living Room
...One that will motivate you to do it over and over again. The only way to success is consistency . If you don t do it regularly you won t see the results you were hoping for. Also, a credible ...
becomes quite apparent that a connection exists between the range of motion available to the core and what the end results are in the swing. A brief synopsis would indicate that a greater range of motion in the core results in a more powerful swing, and less range of motion decreases power in the golf swing.

Speed of Motion

Connected to range of motion is the speed of that range. Speed of motion is essentially adding a time component to range of motion. It is connected to the speed at which an object would move.

If you have a large range of motion created by the body over a short period of time, the speed of the motion is fast
Golf Fitness Training Improves Your Golf Swing with Core Training
...core, and the biomechanics of the golf swing. You can begin to piece together the components of a golf fitness program. Outside of providing the foundation for the golf swing through providing the golfer with the needed levels of flexibility, ...
and power production is high. On the other hand if you decrease the range of motion the body moves through with the golf swing and slow the movement down, power production will be less.

The core is again at the center of this discussion pertaining to the golf swing. At this point, we know that a large range of motion creates a greater X factor in the golf swing. This will ultimately result in greater power output. Add into the equation a high speed of motion, and the power component of the swing becomes greater. The point to be made is that range of motion and speed are interconnected in relation to the golf swing. The core is
How A Golf Fitness Book Can Transform Your Game
...in the book to determine your current fitness level and ultimately your starting point. That way you are sure what you are doing is the right thing that will help your game not hurt it. I think that s the ...
connected to these two entities in that it is the segment of the body that creates the greatest range of motion in the swing.

Balance

Balance is a key component of the golf swing that we hear about quite often. Balance can be defined as the amount of stability within the body during a movement. The greatest amount of balance by the body can be achieved if it maintains a center of gravity around the middle line of support. If you have ever taken a golf lesson you know what the above sentence is talking about. The body including the core must rotate around a center axis in the body. If rotation is moved to far away from this center
Core Strength and Balance in Golf Fitness Training
...who desire to lead active lifestyles into retirement. And since the effects of aging are well known, the possibility of putting off some of the degeneration and injury that comes naturally with age is compelling to everyone, young and old ...
axis, balance in the golf swing will be lost. As a result of weight shifts in the golf swing, the axis which the body rotates around does move, but movement by certain body segments beyond a certain point reduces stability.

Research indicates that accuracy and consistency is connected to stability in the golf swing. In addition, EMG studies indicate that the core is involved to a high extent in the stabilization of the body in any human movement, including the golf swing. We could probably make the connection that the core is a relevant body part in the ability to maintain balance in the golf swing.

Coordination

The final point of this discussion of the core and the golf swing
Online Golf Program Features and Benefits
...can be viewed in written form as well as diagrams. Most importantly it should also have online video demonstrations. With online videos you can get a better visual representation of particular golf swings or exercises for golfers. You could even ...
is coordination. Coordination is essentially the ability of the body to activate body parts in a sequential order to create a desired movement.

Before we
 Core Strength For Golf
...focusing strictly on separate muscle groups, the training is targeted to strengthen the overall movement pattern in an integrated fashion. More of the body is involved. Many of these types of exercises mimic movements required in the golf swing. The ...
begin discussing the functions of the core, let us define it.

Go back to the walking example, and the body must coordinate all parts of the body to create this movement. The golf swing is essentially the same. The body must fire the muscles of the body in a certain order with the correct timing to create the movement of the golf swing. The core is actively involved in the coordination of the golf swing, as is the rest of the body. The two points to focus upon in terms of coordination are: 1) timing and 2) sequence.

The August 14, 2000 issue of Time Magazine features an article about Tiger Woods titled The Game of Risk - How the Best Golfer in the World Got Even Better . Although I have no specific interest in the sport of golf, I do have a long-standing fascination with the general theme of the article: how can someone learn to do something better?

That s precisely what the Alexander Technique is all about. And while Tiger Woods has probably never heard of it, it s interesting that his quest for a better golf swing parallels in many ways the process F. Matthias Alexander - the developer of the Alexander Technique - went through a century ago.

At that time there were no microphones and speakers and so he had to fill an entire auditorium with just the power of his own voice. Like Woods he was very talented at his profession but he also knew that there was room for improvement. In particular, he found that his voice gave out during a longer performance and that he had a tendency to gasp for breath on occasion.

Neither his doctors nor his vocal coaches were able to help and so he set off on his own, using a system of mirrors to monitor his performance in order to see precisely what
Keep Your Golf Fitness Above Par
...shoulders and hips. 5.
That s what Tiger Woods did in order to improve his swing. I knew I wasn t in the greatest positions in my swing at the Masters, Woods said. But my timing was great, so I got away with it. And I made almost every putt. You can have a wonderful week like that even when your swing isn t sound. But can you still contend in tournaments with that swing when your timing isn t good? Will it hold up over a long period of time? The answer to those questions, with the swing
Golf Fitness Instructor Is A New Approach To Your Golf Improvement
...you are looking to improve your golf swing power, mechanics and consistency a credible golf fitness trainer can help you achieve these goals much quicker. Why? Because a golf fitness trainer will assess your physical limitations and golf swing faults ...
I had, was no. And I wanted to change that.

The article notes that Woods has become …an obsessive student of the game who reviews videotapes of old tournaments for clues about how to play each hole. Alexander too was an obsessive student of his performance and in the end his obsession paid off not only in providing a solution to his voice problem, but later in the discovery of a process that could be taught to others who wanted to improve the quality of their physical functioning.

What is most remarkable about Woods, the article continues, is his restless drive for what the Japanese call kaizen, or continuous improvement. Toyota engineers will push
The Core and Improving Your Golf Swing
...will be less. Much of what Alexander Technique teachers do to help their students with today is teach them how to develop this skill for themselves.

It s no wonder that so many leading performers in the fields of acting, music, and dance have studied the Alexander Technique and have publicly endorsed it. It turns out that this ability is also very useful for people who don t consider themselves to be performers but whose performance of activities in their daily lives has put harmful stress on their bodies, often to the point of causing pain such as backache or stiff shoulders and necks.
